Perhaps the most famous, and incidentally non religious, annual event is the Mardi Gras carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. This wonderful carefree period of the Tenerifan calendar has a history that goes someway to explain the zeal and passion that epitomises the celebrations today.

There are numerous bars and restaurants in Los Cristianos, many with live music. The tiny streets come alive in the evening and it's lovely to just walk around and stop for a drink. You will also find that the majority of the larger hotels advertise shows and various entertainment in the evenings, so there will be something for most tastes.
