Dr Thor Heyerdah was the man who built and sailed the Kon Tiki Balsa Wood raft from Peru to Polynesia and later built and sailed reed boats across the oceans. He lived the last few years of his life in Guimar, supervising an archaeological survey excavating and preserving the pyramids of Guimar.
